1 Day Safari - Tarangire National Park
Elephant Country in a Single Unforgettable Day
Overview
About This Safari
Tarangire National Park is Tanzania's most underrated safari destination, and a single day is enough to understand why those in the know rate it so highly. Named after the Tarangire River - the lifeline that sustains wildlife through the dry season - the park holds the highest elephant density of any park in Tanzania, with herds of 200 or more moving between ancient baobab trees that have stood for over a thousand years.
This full-day itinerary departs early to make the most of the park's two game-viewing windows, covering the river circuit where elephant, buffalo, giraffe and zebra congregate, and the baobab woodland where lion and leopard are regularly spotted resting in the shade. A picnic lunch inside the park breaks up the day before an afternoon drive focused on whatever the morning's sightings suggest.
It is the perfect introduction to the Tanzanian bush for travellers short on time, or a satisfying stand-alone safari day for those adding it to a Kilimanjaro climb or Zanzibar stay.

Yes - Tarangire's wildlife is concentrated around the river during the dry season, so a full day of morning and afternoon game drives gives excellent sightings, especially of elephant herds and baobab-dwelling lions.
