Named after the Tarangire River - the lifeline that sustains wildlife through the dry season - the park holds the highest elephant density of any park in Tanzania, with herds of 200 or more moving between ancient baobab trees that have stood for over a thousand years.
This full-day itinerary departs early to make the most of the park's two game-viewing windows, covering the river circuit where elephant, buffalo, giraffe and zebra congregate, and the baobab woodland where lion and leopard are regularly spotted resting in the shade. The Experience
Early pickup from your Arusha or Moshi hotel and drive south to Tarangire National Park. Enter through the main gate for a morning game drive along the river circuit, where elephant super-herds gather at the Tarangire River alongside buffalo, giraffe, zebra and impala. The scenery is dominated by ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old, that provide shade for resting lion and leopard. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site inside the park, then continue with an afternoon game drive through the woodland before the drive back to Arusha or Moshi in the early evening.
